Mike
project manager / designer
Mike began his design career while attending the University of British Columbia for Computer Science in 1994. Mike’s passion for design pulled him away from a career as a programmer and often led him to work summers in small print shops where he learned about design and the printing industry. When web design grew as an industry, and websites became more complicated, Mike’s university background in database systems and user interface design became leading attributes for a designer, and continue to allow him to maintain a deep understanding of the projects he manages.
Mike loves electronic music and started DJing in 1994. In the same year, he became involved with the UBCradio station and still hosts his weekly show, Trancendance, which has been on-air since 2001. In June 2010 Mike joined the CiTR Board of Directors.
While he is entrenched in a high-tech world on a daily basis, he is also fascinated with ancient civilizations. He has traveled to see the Mayan ruins in the Yucutan region of Mexico as well as the Khmer ruins of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. In the near future, he hopes to visit the Egyptian pyramids and the Inca Ruins of Machu Picchu.
Mike joined the 612 team in 2007, “absolutely loves working here,” and was project manager and lead designer for both the MyMacs.ca website and the AntiFROST campaign.
Mike lives in the Gastown area of downtown Vancouver, with his wife and two kids.
